A bit of a wet start to this Friday in the Carondelet Garden. The Doodle Dog was not impressed with the rain. She doesn't actually mind the rain at all, she hates getting dried off before coming back into the house. She's a bit of a goof. The Squash are really starting to show some promise. I'm so excited about the different varieties we are trying this year. We've planted Butternut, Acorn and Spaghetti Squashes. So far so good. We will be eating well this fall! The rain should be sticking around off and on all day. No stormy weather just a wee soft damp to help the plants and flowers grow. The winds are out of the South at 5 to 10 MPH. The roads are still slick with the rain so be careful as you travel about this morning. Take a moment to smell the fresh air. It's lovely outside with the rain. Be good to yourself. Be kind and gentle with others. Happy Friday Gardening Friends!

Our Bush Tomatoes are starting to produce fruit. It's such a great time to be out in the Garden right now with all of the newness sprouting about. We are looking forward to our first BLT of the season with our own tomatoes! Sunny skies abound this morning here in the Carondelet neighborhood of South Saint Louis. Winds are light and variable and it's just about perfect outside right now. It's one of those days that you wish you could replicate over and over again. Be good and be kind to yourself and others as you travel about today. Happy Thursday Gardening Friends! Day: 81-degrees | Night: 59-degrees
The storm clouds have passed for now and the sun is beginning to shine. A bit of a late start this morning here in the Carondelet Garden. The Doodle Dog was anxious to get her walk going but was more than happy to wait for the rain to stop. Today is School Carnival Day in the neighborhood. We are picking up the girls and heading to the rides and games and fun this afternoon. Enjoying this time while we are still cool enough to hang out with. That time is so fleeting, so we grab it all while we can! They are growing up way too fast for my taste. We are beyond fortunate. The weather looks like it just might cooperate. The rain has moved on and the sun is shining. There is a small chance for some more storms this afternoon. Hopefully that won't happen. Otherwise, a mix of clouds and sunshine with winds out of the West at 10 to 20 MPH. Find some joy today as you travel about. Be good and be kind to yourself and others. Have a great Wednesday Gardening Friends! Day: 87-degrees | Night: 66-degrees
These little beauties are called "English Viola." They are quite a lovely addition to the English Garden part of our yard. I love the variegation of the tiny flowers. Just a stunning plant along the stone wall. A bit of whimsy and joy for a Tuesday in June. It's Tune-Up Tuesday. I have to head to the mechanic's shop down the street with the kids' car for some work to be done. Doc's has been in business in our Carondelet neighborhood for quite a while and with good reason. Great service and honest pricing. No higher praise for a business anywhere. Today is going to overcast and cloudy with a possibility of a thunderstorm later in the day. Winds are light and variable. All in all, not a bad day at all. One more day above the roses, as they say. It's a good day for a good day. Be kind to yourself and others on your travels this Tuesday. Have a great day Gardening Friends! Day: 78-degrees | Night: 65-degrees
Red sky at morn, sailors take warn! There was definitely a red sky early this morning in the Garden. It's overcast and a bit humid. The Doodle Dog and I did an early walk around the neighborhood this morning. It's going to be a busy day. Unfortunately, not in the Garden. Lots of errands and meetings and, the list goes on. Even old, retired guys have to do serious work sometimes! Mostly cloudy skies here in South Saint Louis right now. It appears the thunderstorms are going to hold off until this afternoon. Winds are out of the SSW at 5 to 10 MPH. Be careful as you journey about today. Be good and be kind to yourself and those you may meet on your way. Have a great first Monday of June Gardening Friends! Day: 86-degrees | Night: 66-degrees
This Hydrangea was a jumper from our neighbor's yard almost 30 years ago. It's beautiful and still produces lovely blooms every year. I've been fighting to contain it since it is a big-time spreader! Just can't bring myself to take it out completely. It's a bit humid and sticky outside this morning. We should expect a mix of sunshine and clouds with winds out of the SSE at 10 to 15 MPH. Scattered showers tonight with more rain and possibly some more storms tomorrow. Be good and kind to yourself and those you meet this Sunday. Have a great day Gardening Friends! Day: 85-degrees | Night: 63-degrees
The Hosta garden is looking really nice right now. If you have a home in the City of Saint Louis then you probably have that little strip of land between your house and the sidewalk. Ours is only three feet wide and the length of the house. It was very shady and not much grass would grow. We took it all out and began planting Hostas more than thirty years ago. It is filled now and a glorious display every year. The sad part is no one but us really sees it. It is blocked from view in the front by a large bush and our fence and gate from the back. We know it's there and love it every time we walk past. Do you have a hidden garden that you love? Today is another stunning day here in the Carondelet Garden. Low humidity and bright sunshine greeted us as we went outside this morning. Winds are light and variable. Pretty much a perfect day here in South Saint Louis. Enjoy this Sunny Saturday Gardening Friends! Day: 84-degrees | 58-degrees
It's a fun Friday for sure. These beautiful lilies have reappeared after a long time. They were probably a church Easter lily that we were given and just planted in the ground. It's been a few years since we've seen it come up and bloom but here it is again, and it is a stunner! Looks lovely next to the variegated Hosta. We had a great night at the Tower Grove Farmers' Market as part of the Rockwood Beer Garden in Francis Park yesterday. Many wonderful vendors and a truly fantastic evening weather-wise. Even stopped at La Catrina on Hampton for an amazing dinner. Today is going to be another great day here in the Carondelet Garden. Mostly sunny skies with light and variable winds. This is the perfect way to slide into the weekend. I hope you have an opportunity to get out and enjoy this beautiful day. The Doodle Dog got an extra-long walk this morning. Be good and be kind to yourself and others as you sojourn about this Friday! Day: 79-degrees | Night: 55-degrees
The sun is out. The Bougainvillea is looking so lovely in the garden this morning. It seems everything in the garden is just bursting forth with life right now. We've been harvesting lettuce for the last few weeks and this week we have had a bumper crop of Snap Peas and they are delicious! The work and hope and faith and love we put into the garden is so worth it once you begin seeing the results of your labors. The weather today is almost picture perfect. Mostly sunny with a few clouds mixed in for interest. Winds out of the NW at 5 to 10 MPH. It's almost Hollywood perfect weather. Enjoy the sunshine. Stop and admire some flowers or enjoy some time outdoors if you can. It always brightens the day a bit. Have a great day Gardening Friends! Day: 79-degrees | Night: 63-degrees
The Lavender is blooming! We have a small Lavender bed in a corner of the garden, and it is doing quite well this Spring. We love the subtle scent of these beautiful plantings. It's just a pleasure to walk by and brush up against them and get that hint of perfume in the air. Nothing better on a late Spring morning. It's raining here in Carondelet. The moisture is needed after a few warmer days over the weekend. It's a wee, soft, gentle rain with a rumble of thunder in the distance. It makes for a quiet start to the day here in the Garden. It looks like the rain is going to be around off and on all day. Hopefully we will get a bit of break so the Doodle Dog can get in a quick walk. She does not like to miss her journey through the neighborhood. Winds will be out of the WNW at 5 to 10 MPH. It's wet and slick so please be careful as you journey about this Wednesday. Be kind and good to yourself and others. Happy Hump Day Gardening Friends! |
