Day: 87-degrees | Night: 65-degrees
Welcome to another edition of Thirsty Thursday. It's another absolutely stunning morning here in the Carondelet Garden. It is so nice to be able to open the windows and get a breath of fresh air through the house. The Air Conditioner is breathing a sigh of relief from running non-stop for so long. The plants are beginning to show signs of recovery as well and, most importantly, we are able to return to our porch sipping ways in the evening. Thirsty Thursdays on the porch are back, at least for today! The forecast for today calls for partly cloudy skies with winds out of the NNE at 5 to 10 MPH. The humidity is low which makes things just feel a little nicer. It's a good day for a good day. I hope you get a chance to enjoy a wee tipple this evening. Enjoy the beautiful weather. Have a great Thirsty Thursday Gardening Friends!

"Oh, What a Beautiful Morning! Oh, What a Beautiful Day! I've got a wonderful feeling. Everything's going my way!" Love the enthusiasm and positivity of that song! Today is definitely a beatiful morning. Just a stunner outside in the Garden this morning. It's been a whacky few days, technology-wise, for this old gardener. There was a time that I was pretty adept at fixing and trouble-shooting tech things. Unfortunately, that time may have passed. It's funny how things change but stay the same. These days I am totally understanding the European Union's laws trying to standardize certain components in phones and computers. It is becoming a bit maddening! Yet, I don't want to go back either! It's just a bit of a learning curve! Thank goodness for YouTube and Google! A beautiful morning and a beautiful day ahead! Mostly sunny skies. Winds out of the NE at 5 to 10 MPH. A good day for, well, just about anything! Be good and kind to yourself and others today! Have a great whacky Wednesday Gardening Friends! Day: 80-degrees | Night: 68-degrees
What a difference a day makes. Much, much cooler out in the Garden this morning. The heat has been brutal on our squash. Such is the life of a gardener in South Saint Louis. You win some, you lose some! Today is a fun day. We are taking the middle and oldest to their Golf Lessons at Tower Tee. The summer is quickly ending for these little guys as school begins for them next week! Wow! Time is fleeing us. My dad told me that the older you get the quicker time passes you by. Truer words! Cloudy skies this morning iwth a chance for stray shower or thunderstorm. Winds out of the NNE at 5 to 10 MPH. It's a good day for a good day! Have a great Tuesday Gardening Friends! Day: 93-degrees | Night: 72-degrees
Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. The writer of Hebrews must have been a bit of gardener. Pretty much sums it up, doesn't it? Faith in things hoped for, conviction of things not seen. It is seedling time for fall veggies and that is exactly what I'm experiencing hope and waiting with conviction. I hope your Fall seedlings are progressing as well. It's still quite hot but we have hope of a break in the next day or so. I hope so as some of the plants are really showing major signs of stress from the relentless heat and weird rain cycles. The life of a gardener. You have to take a bit of the bad to experience the good. Unfortunately, the squash is some of the worst hit by this weather. I'm still hopeful. We are still under a Heat Advisory this Monday. We have bright sunshine this morning with the expectation of thunderstorms moving in this afternoon and especially tonight. Winds are out of the WSW at 5 to 10 MPH. Try to take it a bit slower today. Be good and kind to yourself and others on your journeys. Have a great Monday Gardening Friends! Day: 95-degrees | Night: 76-degrees
Opened the door and was slapped in the face with a hot, damp cloth! Whoowee! It's sticky out in the Garden this morning. The Doodle Dog and I looked at each other twice before heading out on our walkabout. We did it, but wow, we are both a bit knackered. The Hibiscus is loving this weather. We love the color of this beauty. Dr. B is a sucker for Hibiscus, and we wanted something in the very back between the garage and the fence. This seems to be pretty perfect. Love getting a bloom every day. It's just a little something to look forward to every morning. A bit of grace to start things off. We all need a little grace. Another Heat Advisory this Sunday morning. Bright sunshine this morning with a few afternoon clouds. Suffice it to say, it's hot and humid. Winds are out of the SSW at 5 to 10 MPH. Hopefully you will be able to hit a swimming pool or at least hang out in an air-conditioned pub this fine day. It's a good day for a little grace. A wee bit of down time to recharge those batteries for the coming week. A day of rest for the weary. Have a grace-filled Sunday Gardening Friends! Day: 93-degrees | Night: 75-degrees
It's the last of the San Marzano Tomatoes. The vines are coming out to start planting some green manure to prepare for next season. They have been super producers this year. I have nothing to compare with since this is the first year with this variety. We've made sauce twice with this variety and today we are canning the last of them. We tried freezing them as they ripened so we can them all at once. It worked the first time, so we are very excited to try again. Hot and humid again this morning out in the Garden. The Doodle Dog and I just came home from our morning constitutional, and we are both a bit hot! We can expect lots of sunshine this morning and into the afternoon with a spot thunderstorm possible later. Winds are out of the SSE at 5 to 10 MPH. It's a beautiful morning for a Farmers' Market. Enjoy the sunshine, share a smile, take a walk this morning. Stop and smell the flowers. Eat a fresh, ripe tomato. It's a good day for a good day! Happy Saturday Gardening Friends! Day: 89-degrees | Night: 73-degrees
It's another warm and humid day here in the Carondelet Garden in South Saint Louis, Missouri. A heat advisory has been issued, again. Yet, the English Rose seems to be flourishing in the heat and humidity. The rain has certainly helped! I love the simple elegance of an English Tea Rose. Simplicity has been on my mind a lot lately. As I've gotten older the urge to simplify and cut back has grown. We've lost the last of parents and more than few friends over the past few years. We have helped in the downsizing and clearing out of homes and experienced the struggles of what to keep, what to donate and what to throw away. Unfortunately, oftentimes, it is thrown away. Nobody wants it anymore. You can't even give it away. Off to the landfill it goes. I'm trying to break that cycle in my own life. I've always been attracted to "toys." Stuff filled my life. Gadgets, clothes, furniture, just stuff. Going through it lately has been a bit freeing. Getting rid of stuff while there's at least some value, even if it given away, at least someone is able to use it. It's a bit freeing in many ways. God grant me the serenity to keep the things I need, get rid of the things I don't and the wisdom to know the difference (sorry Saint Francis). Simplicity! The forecast is another mixed bag for South Saint Louis. Partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies with a chance for thunderstorms this afternoon. Winds are light and variable. The mix of heat and humidity can be treacherous, so be careful if you have to be out and about today. Be good and kind to yourself and others you may meet on your journey! Happy Friday Gardening Friends! Day: 84-degrees | Night: 73-degrees
Another round of heavy rain hit the Carondelet neighborhood of South Saint Louis last night. Rain, thunder, lightning and lots of rain. The plants are enjoying the heavenly rain, but it would be nice if it were spread out a bit. The worst is over for today thank goodness. I'm hoping and praying everyone is safe and sound this wet Thursday morning. It looks like we will be getting a bit of a break for the heat advisories of the past few days. Mostly cloudy skies today as the storms move out. Winds will be light and variable. It's a good time for a little faith, hope and love. I wish you all three on this wet Thursday! Day: 97-degrees | Night: 72-degrees
It's a Heat Advisory Humpday here in the Carondelet neighborhood of South Saint Louis. The Sage is looking quite good in this mid-summer heat. Flourishing is the proper word. In Celtic lore, sage represented wisdom and immortality. Sage became a popular symbol of wisdom, believed to improve memory and grant wisdom. The very word sage means a wise man. There was also a superstition that sage thrived when all was going well but would start to wilt when things were going badly. In other words, tend to your Sage and your Sage will tend to you! I guess that is pretty true about life in general. Tend to the small things and the big things will be easier to handle. Don't let the load get too heavy because we all have a load limit. Share the heavy lifting. Call a family member, a friend, someone when you need that extra lift. We don't have to always handle everything alone. I should never talk because I'm the worst offender. I HATE asking for help. Yet I'm getting older and can't do everything I was once able to do so I have to ask for help every once in a while. You know what's interesting? People want to help. They seem to actually enjoy helping! I know I do. Don't be afraid to ask for help. I know it hard. Even scary for some of us. Don't let that last straw break your back. Don't let this heat and humidity break you either! It's another scorcher on the Southside today. Partly cloudy skies this morning will give way to possible showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Winds will be out of the SSW at 10 to 15 MPH. Be good to yourself today. Stay well and hydrated. Be kind to those you may meet on your journey. We are all carrying some extra burdens these days. A little love and kindness goes a long way. Have a great Humpday Gardening Friends! Day: 95-degrees | Night: 77-degrees
Another Heat Advisory for this Primary Election Tuesday here in South Saint Louis. It's already warm and humid out in the Garden. We are back to our watering regime just to keep things from dying off. The Coneflowers are looking lovely still. We are so lucky to be able to keep the plants alive. Our Bush Tomatoes were a bit of a bust as the heat and the water caused some issues with the ripening process. The squirrels didn't help! They seemed to love the Bush Tomatoes! The San Marzano Tomatoes, on the other hand, loved this weather and did beautifully. We had four plants an over 25 pounds of tomatoes. Very pleased with the haul because it is Marinara making time. We can sauce to enjoy all winter long! YUM! Well.. it's hot! Partly cloudy skies expected most of the day. Winds will be out of the SSW at 5 to 10 MPH. Be careful if you are working outside today. Take plenty of breaks and be kind to yourself. It's a good day to take everything a bit slower! Don't forget to vote! Have a great Tuesday Gardening Friends! |
